School Record Falls, Grizzlies See Big Success at KT Woodman Classic

WICHITA, KAN. – The 2024 KT Woodman Classic was good to Butler Track and Field.

The Grizzlies combined for 16 top-10 finishes as well as a broken school record all as Butler Creative Television streamed the event on ESPN+, the program's second ESPN streamed event they have put on.

Women's Results

The highlight of the afternoon for the Grizzly women was sophomore Star Mpama breaking the women's outdoor 800m record as she ran 2:13.59, breaking C. Dietrich's time of 2:13.7 set in 1999. Mpama placed second in the event.

Freshman Kayveonna Jackson ran a 24.56 200m time, finishing in fifth.

The 400m was heavy with Grizzlies as Trishanie Warner placed fifth (56.22), Ala'Jah Brooks placed 10th (57.19) and Mpama followed right behind in 11th (57.49).

Khloi Bird finished in second place in the 10000m (37:55.74) and Alison Unruh came in 11th (40:46.83).

The 4x400m relay team consisting of Jackson, Deslyne Cooper, Michaela Rippe and Brooks registered a fourth-place finish (47.01).

Men's Results

The Butler men had nine top-10 finishes across the two-day event.

Eddy Vu ran 10.44 in the 100m for a 10th place finish.

Devian King (20.68) and Edy Vu (21.41) turned in second place and eight place finishes respectively in the 200m.

The Grizzlies had three in the top-10 of the 400m with Michael Thomas in fourth (48.28), Abdelhakim Boukhiar in sixth (48.71) and Avindale Smith in seventh (48.80).

Boukhiar also finished fifth in Friday's 800m (1:52.82) followed by Soualah Yasser in sixth (1:53.32).

In the 800m on Saturday, Isaiah Smith placed seventh (1:58.72).

The men's 4x100m relay consisting of Vu, Andre Morrison, Jonathan Farinha and King placed second (40.42).
