Sanchez finishes Region Runner-up, Women finish 2nd overall

Iola, KANSAS – Michelle Sanchez won the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference crown and finished Region VI runner-up after an incredibly ran race on Saturday morning helping lead her team to a runner-up finish at the Region VI/KJCCC Championships hosted by Allen CC at Allen County Country Club.

Both the women's and men's team saw vast improvements from last season as the women finished 2nd place compared to their 8th place finish last season while them men moved from 10th to 6th in this year's Region VI meet. 

After the first split of the women's race, Sanchez was sitting in third place followed by teammates Zadie St. Louis and Shanique Masters in 9th and 10th place. Stephany Lechuga wasn't far behind running in 17th place after the first two miles. Sanchez managed to climb up one spot the remainder of the race while St. Louis held her spot at No. 9.

Four of Butler's runners finished inside the top 20, with two inside the top 10 in the women's 5000-meter race. Sanchez led with a 2nd place Region finish coming across the finish line in 19:07.79. She was followed by teammate Zadie St. Lucas who came in 9th overall running 20:24.94. Shanique Masters finished 13th with a time of 20:40.19 while Stephany Lechuga crossing the line in 20th with a time of 21:14.94.

Other Grizzly finishers on the women's side were (Region VI / KJCCC) Hilda Kipruto 31st/14th 22:34.25, Victoria Duran 47th/24th 24:07.19 and Emily Tharp 54th/28th 25:16.34. This

The men's team finished 6th in Region VI and 3rd in KJCCC east Saturday morning from the Region VI/KJCCC Championships in Iola, KS improving from last year's 10th place Region VI finish and 6th place conference finish.

Timothy Kimeli led the Grizzlies finishing 29th overall and 11th in the KJCCC east with a time of 27:45.65 in the men's 8000-meter race. He was trailed closely by Tarik Xavier and Anton Reeves who came across 32nd and 33rd with times of 27:52.13 and 27:56.25.

Other Grizzly finishers were Luis Manqueros who ran a 28:17.49 finishing 41st overall while Juan Tovar came in 48th with his 28:53.77 race. Jaden Dawson rounded out the scoring for Butler finishing 68th running a 30:18.05.
