Women take 9th at Terry Masterson Twilight Classic

The Butler Cross Country teams got their season started this past week at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic hosted by Hutchinson Community College.

The highlight of the night was Butler freshman Rodgers Rotich setting a new course record as he won the men's four-mile race running a time of 19:11.78.

Victor Jumo finished 10th with a 20:58.32. Kaceson Lolar came in 79th running a 23:17.52 with teammate Andrew Leck coming in behind in 80th with a time of 23:17.76. Valeur Muyoboke took 84th running a 23:19.32. Garret Huffman finished 106th running a 24:03.50 and Mason Seiter took 133rd finishing with a time of 25:12.92.

As a team, the men finished 6th place overall scoring 99 points. Just two KJCCC teams placed in front of the Grizzlies with Northwest Tech winning the meet and Cowley taking third. Fort Hays State, Newman and Kansas Wesleyan were other four-year programs finishing ahead of the Grizzlies.

On the women's side, the young squad finished the meet in 9th place overall scoring 90 points with four teams ahead of them coming from the KJCCC.

Khloi Bird was the highest finisher for the Grizzlies coming in 10th place in the meet with an 18:53.52. Heidi Grimmett placed 42nd running a 20:25.05 while teammate Faith Jepkirui was close behind coming in 46th with a 20:29.01. Grace Cantrell finished with a time of 21:37.02 coming in 78th place. Gabriella Gordon took 86th with a time of 21:55.63 and Jose Ware rounded out the Grizzlies runners coming in 91st place with a time of 22:12.33.

Butler has the week off and will travel to the Missouri Southern Stampede on September 17th for their next competition.
