Bird pieces together strong performance at 34th Annual Chile Pepper Festival

The Butler Grizzlies competed at the 2022 Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas this past weekend, and it was a strong showing for the Butler team as they raced against many Division I runners.

Rodgers Rotich starred again for Butler, finishing fifth out of 356 runners in the 8K with a time of 23:42.1. The Grizzly men combined to take 28th out of the 33 teams that competed, most being NCAA Div. I teams. Next closest was Victor Jumo who finished 116th, coming in with a time of 25:25.2.The Grizzly men had the third highest score among junior college teams, only behind Colby, who finished second in the meet, and Iowa Central.

Rotich and Khloi Bird have been the standouts for Butler this year, and it was Bird leading the way again on the women's side in the 5k, finishing 28th in a race that featured 275 competitors. Bird finished with a time of 19:17. Heidi Grimmet was also strong, placing 38th with a time of 19:26.9, as the Grizzlies placed 12th out of 37 teams. The Grizzlies had the highest finish among junior college teams at the 34th Annual Chile Pepper Festival.

The Grizzlies will host their next meet, as they will compete in the Ollie Isom Invitational in El Dorado on October 14th.
