Ruvalcaba, Miller each post hat tricks as Butler pounds KCK

Alyssa Miller and Mari Ruvalcaba scored three points apiece as the Butler soccer team defeated the Kansas City, Kansas Blue Devils 14-0 at the Overland Park Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

Butler scored five goals in the first half. Lamya Scott was the first to score, assisted by Alyssia Salinas and Laura Falkenstien. Next to score was Martha Aguilar assisted by Ruvalcaba followed by Hannah Palomo assisted by Aguilar. Near the end of the first half, Alyssa Miller was assisted by Abby Ponce for a goal. Butler ended the half with Laura Falkenstien scoring with an assist from Megan Snyder.

Miller added two more goals at the beginning of the second half, both assisted by Ponce. Simone Arthur was next to make the shot with help from Aisling Kerr. The first unassisted goal for the game was scored by Ponce, making the score 8-0.

Butler defender JeeHye Yi scored her first goal for the Grizzlies with an assist from Ruvalcaba. Ruvalcaba then took the ball under her feet to score the next three goals for Butler, with assists from Megan Snyder and Darcy Nightingale. The final and winning goal for the game was scored by Snyder without an assist.

Butler took 33 shots during the game, compared to just one shot taken by KCK. The Grizzlies had one save and took seven corner kicks.

Butler is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in Jayhawk Conference play. The next game will be Butler at Neosho County on Sept. 14.
