Top 25 matchup in El Dorado sees Butler Soccer come away with draw

EL DORADO, Kan. – The 18th ranked Butler soccer team hosted 13th ranked Hill College on Saturday evening at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex and came away with a 2-2 draw in the non-conference tilt.

Butler (4-2-5) has now had five draws this season, the most ever in a season for the Grizzlies. Hill (4-2-2) traveled to El Dorado for a second consecutive season after the Rebels defeated the Grizzlies 1-0 in 2022.

Butler took a 1-0 lead as freshman midfielder Sakiko Manabe scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute of the first half. Manabe was heading down the left side of the field when sophomore midfielder Emma Kolbe passed to her. Manabe crossed in front of the defender and took a right footed shot from the front left of the box that went over the goalie and in on the right side of the goal. Manabe leads the Grizzlies with four goals this season.

Hill responded in the 13th minute as Daniela Cerda scored to make it 1-1.

Butler sophomore forward Kaitlin Erwin made it 2-1 as freshman defender Giselle Nash had the ball right in front of the goal, flipped it over and behind her and Erwin tapped it in.

Hill once again had an answer, this one just four minutes later in the 30th minute when Trinity Brown tied the game at two.

The second half saw both teams have opportunities at the goal but neither could punch it in.

Butler plays at Coffeyville on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
