Riley’s goal, Grizzlies stout defense leads Butler to win over Dodge City

DODGE CITY, Kan. – The 18th ranked Butler Soccer team picked up its third straight win on Wednesday night, this one coming at Memorial Stadium as they took down Dodge City 1-0.

Butler (4-2-4, 3-2-3 KJCCC) sits in fifth place in the KJCCC with nine points after defeating the last place Conquistadors (1-4-3, 0-4-3 KJCCC). Butler has won three straight, all against conference foes on the road at Garden City, Seward and now Dodge City.

Sophomore defender Logan Riley (Derby) scored the game's lone goal in the 62nd minute as she streaked down the right side of the field and placed a shot between the Dodge City goalie's legs from out wide. The goal was Riley's first of the season and her career.

Grizzly keeper sophomore Carla Apodaca (Chihuahua, Mexico) finished with two saves as the Grizzly defense did a great job at limiting the Conquistador attack.

Butler had 21 shots to Dodge City's six. Butler edged out DCCC 5-3 in corner kicks and the Conquistadors had two yellow cards and one red card, all coming in the second half.

Butler returns home on Saturday as they host Hill College in a top-25 non-conference matchup at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex set for 7 p.m. CT.
