Grizzly Soccer Wraps up Regular Season With Sophomore Day Beatdown of Dodge City

EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler soccer hosted Dodge City on Saturday for the Grizzlies final regular season game as well as sophomore day, and they took down the Conquistadors 6-1 at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

Butler honored 10 sophomores in a pregame ceremony and you can find the photos here. The sophomores are Emma Kolbe, Brooke Sullivan, Omnia Thompson, Kaitlin Erwin, Logan Riley, Harlie Wilson, Brekkyn Pierce, Alayna Runck, Renata Bernal and Carla Apodaca.

The Grizzlies finished out the regular season with six goals scored vs. Dodge City (3-8-5, 2-8-5 KJCCC), a season-high. They end the regular season with a 9-5-5 overall record and 8-5-3 mark in the KJCCC. Butler's regular season is over earlier than most others in the conference as there are games remaining this upcoming week. Butler sits in fifth place in the conference currently.

The Grizzlies started the scoring in the 22nd minute as freshman Rose Loyle headed in a goal off an assist from Kolbe.

Kolbe finished with a goal scored as well as three assists in her last ever game at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.

Loyle, Ruby Kilden, Kolbe, Sakiko Manabe and Kaitlin Erwin were the Grizzly goal scorers with Dodge City also helping Butler out with an own goal in the 41st minute.

Butler scored three goals in each half. They scored just 42 seconds into the second half when Kolbe netted a goal off a double assist from Riley and Wilson.

Butler outshot Dodge City 15-2. Apodaca had one save on one shot on goal. Kilden, Erwin, Kolbe and Matsumoto all had two shots on goal. It was the third straight game Butler scored five or more goals as they enter postseason playing extremely well.

The Grizzlies now wait for the conference season to finish out and see where they land in the final standings as well as where they will play in the region tournament.
