Soccer holds steady at No. 8 in national poll

For the second straight week, the Butler women's soccer team remained ranked eighth in the NJCAA Top 20 Division I poll, which was released Wednesday.

Butler (9-2-0 overall, 4-0-0 conference) received 64 votes in this week's poll after picking up a pair of conference victories over the weekend. The Grizzlies defeated Garden City 10-1 Friday night, then knocked off No. 20 Johnson County by a 2-1 score in overtime on Sunday.

For the fourth straight week, Paradise Valley (AZ) remained atop the poll at No. 1, while Laramie County and Iowa Western swapped spots at 2 and 3. Navarro (Texas) stayed at No. 4 and Tyler (Texas) moved up one spot to No. 5 to round out the top five. With the win against Johnson on Sunday, Butler is now 2-2 against ranked teams.

Other KJCCC schools featured in the national poll are Barton (12th), Johnson County (16th) and Coffeyville (20th).

Butler travels to Great Bend on Friday for a key conference game against No. 12 Barton (8-2-0 overall, 8-0-0 conference) at 4 p.m., as both the Grizzlies and Cougars are the only remaining undefeated teams in KJCCC conference play. On Sunday, the Grizzlies will host Neosho County (2-7-1, 1-5-1) at 7 p.m. at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
