Butler defeats Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa 1-0 on road

TONKAWA, Okla. – The Butler women's soccer team recorded its second straight shutout victory with a 1-0 road win over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa on Sunday.

Butler (2-3-1 overall), ranked third in the nation, handed Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa (4-1-1) its first loss of the season.

The lone goal in the contest came in the 48th minute courtesy of sophomore Madison Wedekind, who scored her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Brittney Lawrence assisted on the goal. Wedekind has scored a goal in each of the last three contests, while Lawrence has recorded an assist in four straight games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsi Langley earned her first win of the season by stopping five shots on goal.

The win was the first road win of the season for the Grizzlies, who lead the series 11-2-1 against the Mavericks. Butler has won the last seven meetings and has not allowed a goal in the last four games against Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa.

Butler will host two games this weekend at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex, beginning with Friday's 7 p.m. contest against Hesston College. The Grizzlies will then face No. 13 Tyler (TX) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
