Grizzlies clinch KJCCC East title with 8-0 win over Neosho

The Butler Grizzlies clinched the Jayhawk East division for the twelfth time since 2002 on Saturday with a 8-0 trouncing of the Neosho Panthers at home at BG Products Veterans Sports Complex on Saturday.

With the win, the Grizzlies improved to 12-4-1 and 10-1 in conference play and they extended their winning streak to three consecutive games.

Butler dominated from the very first kickoff, registering 14 of the first 15 shots. The Grizzlies would finish the game with 38 shots with 18 shots on goal. The Grizzlies broke the deadlock in the fourth minute with a goal from Gabriela Staley. Natalie Amaya found the net 11 minutes later as the Grizzlies took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Neosho would have no answer coming out of the locker room, and the floodgates opened. Joy Ngibuini scored two goals in the first five minutes of the half. Kim Mcalpine followed with two goals of her own, upping her tally to 19 on the year. Carsyn Soto and Yossi Villagrana found the back of the net in the final ten minutes to cement the victory and the conference title. It was a good night in net for the Grizzlies as Ashton Conley and Sharon Ngibuini combined for the clean sheet, with Conley stopping the only shot the Grizzlies conceded.

The Grizzlies will look to extend their winning ways on Wednesday when they travel to Coffeyville before ending the regular season at home next Sunday when they face Johnson County on Sophomore Night at BG Stadium.
