Apodaca named KJCCC Keeper of the Week

COLBY, Kan. – Butler soccer goalkeeper Carla Apodaca was named the KJCCC goalkeeper of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Apodaca, a sophomore from Chihuahua, Mexico, earns the first weekly award of the season for Butler women's soccer.

She compiled 16 saves over the past week as the Grizzlies went 1-0-1 with a 1-1 draw with KCK at home and a 4-0 victory over #5 Monroe CC at a neutral site in Overland Park.

Apodaca posted eight saves in each match. The match with KCK was highlighted by a second half 1-on-1 save and a back to bar save off a KCK corner kick. In Sunday's match vs. Monroe, Apodaca delivered again with eight saves vs. the No. 5 team in the nation, helping to shut them out.

Apodaca has logged all 450 minutes for Butler in goal this season while making 29 saves and has a record of 1-1-3. She has been the mainstay for Butler after only appearing in six games as a freshman last season, starting one.

Butler returns to action on Wednesday with a KJCCC match at Hutchinson at the Salthawk Sports Complex, set for a 6 p.m. start. The match will be streamed at https://kjccc.org/sports-network
