Butler goes 4-0 in Iowa, runs winning streak to six matches

The Butler volleyball team continued its winning ways over the weekend at the Southeastern Iowa Classic in West Burlington. The Grizzlies won all four matches over Friday and Saturday, dropping just one set along the way.

Butler, which moved into the national rankings this week at No. 17, could possibly move up in the coming week, having won six in a row and eight of its last nine matches. The Grizzlies (11-4 overall, 2-1 in KJCCC play) will now prepare for a test against No. 1-ranked Cowley County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Power Plant.

On Friday, Butler beat East Central (Mo.) in three sets, then beat Lake Land (Ill.) in four sets. Then on Saturday, Butler continued to roll with straight-set wins over Carl Sandburg (Ill.) and Lewis & Clark (Ill.) to finish off the event.

 

Butler 3, East Central 0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-10) 

Mackenzie Stuever hit .467 with seven kills, eight digs and a block. Kailee Dudley hit .500 with seven kills and four blocks. Payton White had a day with eight kills and two blocks. Kailan Kuzmic had 17 assists, a pair of aces, 16 digs and a block. Jessica Schwartz had 16 digs and Jessica Green had 15 digs with four kills. 

Butler 3, Lakeland 1 (25-18, 25-23, 22-25, 25-18)

Payton White led the Grizzlies with 15 kills, hitting .306 with two blocks. Kailee Dudley had 13 kills, four blocks and.400 hitting percentage. Lexi Wartick had nine kills and a block. Jesse Green had seven kills, four blocks, three aces and 23 digs. Kailan Kuzmic had 26 assists with four kills.

Butler 3, Carl Sandburg 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-16)

Mckenzie Johnson and Kailee Dudley had six kills each, while Jessie Green and Kailan Kuzmic added five kills apiece. Kuzmic also had 12 assissts and eight digs for Butler. Jessie Schwartz and Mary Kangas had 10 digs each. 

Butler 3, Lewis and Clark 0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-17)

Kailee Dudley had 10 kills hitting .421 to go along with three blocks. Payton White added seven kills and two blocks. Mackenzie Stuever had four kills hitting .571 with 4 blocks. Kailan Kuzmic had 14 assists with three kills. Jessica Schwartz had 12 digs and Lauren Hug had 15 digs.
