Grizzlies close series with double-header sweep; take three out of four to open KJCCC play
The Butler Grizzlies saw their two game trip to Hutchinson moved due to weather this weekend, as the two teams instead returned to El Dorado and McDonald Stadium to finish the four game series after splitting a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Grizzlies used the friendly Mac Shack confines to their advantage, sweeping the doubleheader and taking three of the four games against the Blue Dragons, winning the first game, 7-6, before finishing the sweep with a 16-6 run rule affair.
Game One
The Grizzlies, who were the designated road team for the day, scored the first seven runs of the first game, before having to hold on for a nervy finish, as the Blue Dragons plated six runs in the final three innings.
Cooper Torres and Jackson Syring continued their power hitting ways, as the Grizzlies' top two players in homers this season both went deep. Torres leads the Grizzlies in long balls this season, as he now has eight, while Syring hit his fifth. The Grizzlies totaled eight runs on 11 hits in game one.
Izack Tiger gave the Grizzlies six solid innings picking up his fourth win of the season while Andrew Wisner, who gave up a walk and a two run homerun to start, claimed his fifth save of the season closing out the game in the seventh responding with three straight strikeouts.
Game Two
The Grizzlies plated three in the second inning, four in the sixth, one in the seventh, and an astounding eight runs in the eighth as it was all smiles for Butler in game two. Three different players hit home runs in the game, Sam Siegel, Cache Stone, and Zach Brink all hitting balls out of the park. Siegel starred in the second game, earning four RBIs, scoring three runs, and finishing with three hits. The Grizzlies' 16 runs tied the season high for runs in a game this season, as they also scored 16 against Seminole State in February.
Tyler Leachner earned his fourth win of the season as he came in relief for starter Corbin Talley in the fifth giving up one run in two and two-thirds innings, while striking out three. Three Butler pitchers combined to allow six runs on 11 hits, striking out six total batters.
The Grizzlies improve to 12-6 on the year, and open up conference play with a 3-1 record. They'll return home on Thursday for a doubleheader against Seward, before finishing the four game series in Liberal on Saturday.
