The Grizzlies were picked to finish fourth in the nine-team KJCCC West. Barton and Cloud County were tied for first with 71 points each. Hutchinson received the most first place votes (four) but was picked third with 66 points. The Grizzlies tallied 47 points slotted in at fourth and were followed by Dodge City in fifth, Seward County in sixth, Colby in seventh, Garden City in eighth and Pratt rounding things out in ninth. On the East side, Johnson County was picked to win the division with Cowley and KCKCC rounding out the top three.
Last season Butler finished fifth in the regular season with a 19-13 league record, 33-27 overall. The Grizzlies hosted Neosho in the opening round of the Region 6 Playoffs and won the best-of-three series 2-0. They advanced to the Plains District Tournament at Wichita State's Eck Stadium and went 1-2 in the tournament defeating Cloud County and falling to Johnson County and Cowley. The 2024 Grizzlies sent 11 student-athletes on to play at the next level and the team finished with a 3.33 GPA.
Head coach Ty Reese returns for his second season as head coach, 17th on the coaching staff at Butler. He is joined by two new assistant coaches on staff in Micah Grover and Brandon Bachar. The Grizzlies return 11 players from the 2024 squad including pitchers Bradyn McClure (62.1 IP in 2024), Dayton Pelfrey (47.2 IP in 2024) and Caden Hinther (35.2 IP in 2024) who were among the top-five in innings pitched on the Grizzly pitching staff a season ago. Pelfrey was named to the 2024 Region 6/Plains District All-Tournament team after throwing a complete game 8.0 inning shutout in Butler's 9-0 win over Cloud County in an elimination contest at the Plains District Tournament. McClure held a 56/14 strikeout to walk ratio finishing with a 5-5 record on the season.
Butler's season begins on February 6th with a doubleheader at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas. The first action at home is when Northeast Community College visits McDonald Stadium for a four-game set beginning on Saturday, Feb. 22nd. Conference play begins on Thursday, March 6th, as the Grizzlies travel to take on the Garden City Broncbusters.
