Baseball Secures Series Win With Walk Off Victory
Butler Snags Series Win Off Wild Pitch
EL DORADO, Kan. – A ninth inning wild pitch sent Butler freshman outfielder Jaden Rose home from third base securing a 10-9 win for the Grizzlies over Des Moines Area Community College.
Butler (7-4) erased a 9-4 deficit with six runs over the final two innings to grab the series win over the Bears (5-11), 3-0. The series finale will be played on Sunday afternoon with a noon first pitch.
The Grizzlies used five pitchers in the game with freshman Shane Holman (2-0) earning his second win of the young season throwing the ninth inning allowing one hit and striking out one. Entering the eighth inning Butler trailed the Bears 9-4. The Grizzlies proceeded to go on a two-out tear. Freshman infielder Jackson Ellison hit a bases clearing triple, redshirt freshman infielder Cooper Rasmussen scored Ellison on a single through the right side and Rasmussen later scored on an error by a Bear outfielder to tie the game 9-9.
Holman got a ground out, foul out and a strike out in the top of the ninth to send the Grizzly bats back out with a chance for a walk off. Rose led things off with a walk and a Breck Romero sacrifice bunt pushed him to second. Rose then stole third one batter later and eventually came home on a wild pitch as the Grizzlies poured out of the home dugout celebrating the win. DMACC pitcher Nick Cox (L, 0-2) took the loss allowing one earned run on two hits in 0.2 innings of work. Grizzly freshman outfielder Kaleb Nye earned his first start of the season, also his first game action, and came through with solid defensive play and a 2-4 finish at the plate.
