GARDEN CITY, Kan. – Butler baseball traveled to Williams Stadium for a doubleheader with the Garden City Broncbusters on Thursday afternoon and came away with a split.
Butler (8-6, 1-1 KJCCC) won game one 7-6 before falling 19-8 to Garden City (8-8, 1-1) in a seven-inning run rule in game two.
In game one, Butler trailed 3-2 entering the sixth inning. The Grizzlies ripped off five runs in the sixth inning, scoring on an error, a fielder's choice RBI from Alex Coester, an RBI single from Holden Lough and a two-run double from Jackson Ellison to take a 7-3 lead. Garden City answered with three runs in the sixth to pull within 7-6 but Grizzly closer Jack Haag closed things out for his second save of the season in the seventh inning.
Garden City blitzed the Grizzlies in game two winning 19-8. The Broncbusters used a 10-run sixth inning to go ahead 19-6. Butler led 5-3 after a four run second inning aided by an error. The Grizzlies used four pitchers in the game.
