EL DORADO, Kan. – With the series shifting back to El Dorado on Saturday, Butler baseball was able to snag a doubleheader sweep of the Garden City Broncbusters at McDonald Stadium, earning a 3-1 series win in the first conference games of the 2025 season.
The Grizzlies (10-6, 3-1) held the Broncbusters (8-10, 1-3) to four runs in both games winning 11-4 in seven innings in game one and 7-4 in nine innings in game two.
Two big innings helped Butler to the game one win as they plated four runs in the second inning and five runs in the sixth. Butler tallied 12 hits to Garden City's six. Garden City struck first in the top of the first on an RBI double from pitcher Sean Togher but the Grizzlies used the four spot in the second to go ahead 4-1, never trailing again. Bradyn McClure got the start on the mound for Butler and tossed 3.0 innings allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four and walking two. Maddux Schrupp (W, 2-1) allowed a lone run working the final four innings of relief striking out four and giving up one hit.
Butler got out to a quick start in game two scoring four runs in the first inning as an Amarion Sailer two run double helped get the Grizzlies going. Butler outhit Garden 9-7 with each team making an error. Garden City tied the game 4-4 in the top of the fourth but the Grizzlies had an answer in the bottom half as a Jackson Ellison RBI single scored Brady Todd to make it 5-4. The Grizzlies put the finishing touches on in the eighth as Cooper Rasmussen singled to center field scoring two Grizzlies to make it 7-4. Butler used four pitchers in the game with Jack Haag earning the save, his third of the season.
