Big 5th Inning Sends Butler to Victory at Coffeyville
Jaden Rose Delivers Grand Slam in Big Butler Inning
COFFEYVILLE, Kan. – Butler baseball picked up its second win of the season over Coffeyville at Walter Johnson Park on Tuesday afternoon.
Butler (11-6) earned a 9-8 win over the Red Ravens (10-6) in a non-conference, nine-inning tilt. It was the second meeting between the two this season with Butler winning both on the road.
Coffeyville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Butler made it 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth. The Ravens answered back with three runs in the fourth taking a 5-1 lead. Butler then plated six runs in the top of the fifth highlighted by a one out grand slam from freshman outfielder Jaden Rose that made it 6-5 Grizzlies. Rose now leads Butler with three home runs this season. Each team plated a run in the sixth and the eighth to make it 9-7 entering the ninth. Butler closer Jack Haag allowed one run in the ninth but closed the game out picking up his fourth save of the season. Freshman Max White (W, 1-0) earned the win throwing 2.0 innings in relief allowing a run and striking out two. Elias Muller got the start on the mound tossing 3.0 innings allowing two runs on two hits, striking out two and walking one. The Ravens used eight pitchers in the game and were led at the plate by Brady Shackelford's four RBI as he was 3-5.
