DODGE CITY, Kan. – Butler baseball had multiple opportunities to seal wins over Dodge City at Cavalier Field on Sunday but let leads slip away in two losses.
Dodge City (18-11, 4-8) won 12-10 in game one and 6-5 in 10 innings over the Grizzlies (15-11, 7-5) in game two.
The Grizzlies led 2-0 in the second and 10-6 in the sixth inning but allowed six Dodge City runs in the bottom of the sixth as the Conqs got away with the win. The Grizzly offense plated seven runs in the top of the sixth but the defense and pitching staff could not hold on to the four-run lead. Dodge outhit Butler 14-9 in the game while Butler made five errors to the Conqs one. Closer Jack Haag (L, 0-1) was straddled with the loss allowing the final two runs. Starter Bradyn McClure went 4.1 innings allowing six runs on nine hits. He struck out four and walked two.
Game two went to extra innings after Dodge City tied the game 4-4 with two runs in the eighth inning. Butler led the 10th off with a Cooper Rasmussen solo home run to regain the lead but Dodge City wasted no time with two runs in the bottom half to walk the game off, 6-5. It marked Butler's first extra inning game of the season. Van Haneberg (L, 1-1) was tagged with the loss allowing two runs on four hits.
