Wichita native AJ King named National Special Teams Player of the Week

After being voted as the Jayhawk Conference Special Teams and Offensive player of the Week, Butler sophomore AJ King has been voted as the NJCAA National Special Teams Player of the Week.

"AJ is s special kind of player," commented head coach Brice Vignery. "Anytime he has the ball in his hands good things can happen for us and everyone at the game Saturday got to witness that firsthand. I am happy he is being recognized nationally because I know that amount of work he puts into his craft."

AJ King, a sophomore wide receiver and return specialist from Wichita, KS, was huge for the Grizzlies Saturday in Butler's 50-49 overtime loss to No. 10-ranked Snow. King totaled an incredible 348 all-purpose yards in the loss to the Badgers.

Not only was he a threat downfield as a wide receiver but also as a kick and punt returner. King caught 11 passes for 158 yards with a long of 44-yards and touchdown. As a returner, King had two kick returns with an average of 44-yards per return with a long of 47. He had three punt returns on the day and took one to the house for 82-yards and a touchdown tying the game in the fourth quarter at 35-35. King's 82-yard punt return is the 5th longest in program history.

This marks the second time in three week's that a Butler football player has been recognized for their on-field accomplishments this season. Norman Massey was awarded Defensive Player of the week back in Week 1 in the Grizzlies 35-28 win over Garden City.
