Running back Markellus Bass (Offensive Player of the Week), defensive tackle Seven Cloud (Defensive Player of the Week) and Chevy Edwards (Special Teams Player of the Week) all picked up their first weekly honors from the conference as Butler defeated No. 1 Hutchinson 27-22 on the road.
Bass, a freshman running back from Nashville, Tenn., finished with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, good for 6.3 yards per carry. On Butler's first possession, Bass ripped off a 59-yard rush on 3rd and 12 to set up a touchdown. Bass has rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games.
Cloud, a redshirt freshman from Atlanta, Ga., helped Butler hold the Blue Dragons to a season-low 22 points as Cloud finished with 9.0 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and a career-high 3.5 sacks. Cloud also added a forced fumble and now has 40 tackles this season including 9.0 tackles for loss.
Edwards, a sophomore punter from Melbourne, Victoria, played a huge part in the win as he finished with four punts inside the 20 and two punts downed inside the 5-yard line, helping the Grizzlies win the field position battle all game. On the season, Edwards is averaging 39.4 yards per punt and has landed 19 punts inside the 20-yard line.
The No. 10 ranked Grizzlies travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, this Saturday to take on the No. 1 ranked Iowa Western Reivers at Titan Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. and the game can be heard on 98.7FM and 1330AM KNSS with the 'Voice of the Grizzlies' Dennis Higgins on the call.
