Jake Landoll enters his third season on the Butler coaching staff in 2024. Landoll oversees the defensive line and also holds the title of associate head coach.

In Landoll's second season on staff in El Dorado he helped mentor an NJCAA All-American and All-KJCCC first team member in Marlin Dean. Dean finished with 7.5 sacks, 25 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. Malcolm Alcorn-Crowder was named an honorable mention All-KJCCC selection under Landoll's tutelage. Five Grizzly defensive lineman moved on to the next level at four year institutions in Dean (Utah State), Alcorn-Crowder (Kansas State), Wesley Bentley (Savannah State), James Smith (Pittsburg State) and Jaden Scott (UCO).

Landoll's first season on staff with Butler in 2022 saw the Grizzlies finish 8-4 and win their 17th all-time bowl game taking down Kilgore in the Heart of Texas Bowl. Landoll coached three All-KJCCC defensive line selections in Caleb Foster, Caylen Lowery and Ugo Nosike. Six of Landoll's defensive linemen, Malik Stewart (Northern Iowa), George Traglia (Kansas State), Laine Jenkins (Illinois), Nosike (Eastern Michigan), Lowery (Quincy) and Aaron Woods (UV-Wise) moved on to four year schools following the season.

Landoll, a Wichita, Kan., native and Kapaun Mt. Carmel graduate, brings experience to the staff having coached in several roles at all levels of college football.

Most recently, Landoll spent the two seasons as the defensive Coordinator for the Highland Scotties. There, he was able to produce nine All-Conference players and two NJCAA All-Americans.  One of his defensive ends concluded the 2021 season leading the nation in sacks. In his time at Highland, 11 defensive players signed to play NCAA Division 1 football.

Other stops for Landoll include University of Saint Mary (KS)/ NAIA – Linebackers coach, Bethel College (KS)/ NAIA – Defensive Line coach, Northwestern State (LA)/ FCS D1 – Asst. Defensive Line coach, Missouri Southern State University (MO)/ D2 – Defensive Line Coach/ Academic Coordinator, Northeast CC (MS)/ MS JUCO – Defensive Line Coach.

While at Northwestern State, Landoll had a graduate assistant, Dennis Johnson, that he mentored who went on to become the defensive line coach at LSU and is currently the Baltimore Ravens defensive line coach. During his tenure at NSU he coached several All-Conference players and helped the FCS program upset several top programs including Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas and Stephen F. Austin along with FBS opponent Louisiana Tech.

At Missouri Southern, Landoll coached Brandon Williams who was recognized as the Div. II National Defensive Player of the year; All-American Selection, finished No. 1 in school history is sacks and was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the third Round.

Landoll grew as a coach under the tutelage of two defensive line gurus in the business.  The first is coach Jay Thomas, former assistant to the GM of the Tennessee Titans.  The second is Coach Pete Jenkins, long time LSU assistant coach and mentor of Ed Orgeron. Jenkins’ coaching tree is regularly thought of as one of the most talented in the country.

Prior to his coaching career, Landoll was a three-year starter on the defensive line at the University of Saint Mary (Leavenworth, KS). He became a 1st Team All-KCAC defensive lineman his junior and senior seasons, was All-Region and Don Hansen All-American his junior and senior year and played in the 1st NAIA All-Star game setting records for tackles for loss (4.5) and forced fumbles (3) in that game.
