COFFEYVILLE, Kan. - The Butler men pushed the nation's third-ranked team to the end, but were unable to pull off the upset in a 72-63 loss to Coffeyville on Saturday at Nellis Hall.

Butler led by three with 6:30 to go, but Coffeyville hit three straight 3-pointers to start a 12-0 run turning Butler's 49-46 lead into a 58-49 deficit.

Butler answered with seven straight of its own to make it 58-57, but Coffeyville hit yet another 3-pointer to go up by four and Butler would get no closer.

Butler had led for the majority of the game to that point. Butler started building lead midway through the first half. Chiddy Golden scored and was fouled. He also made the free throw to put Butler up 15–11 with 10:41 left.

The Grizzlies stretched the lead to as many as nine points late in the first half, but Coffeyville would outscored Butler 10-0 over the final three minutes of the period and the Red Ravens led 32-31 at the break.

Butler got the first bucket in the second half when Mohamed Fofana scored down low. The two teams exchanged the lead several times before Butler got four straight points from Immanuel Allen. He made two free throws, then hit a jumper with 6:31 to go to put the Grizzlies up 49-46.

That's when Coffeyville used its 12-0 run to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Butler was led by three players - Juwan White, Immanuel Allen and Mohamed Fofana - who had 14 points apiece. Fofana also led the team with 12 rebounds for a double-double. It is his fourth double-double of the season.

Butler is now 13-10 on the season and falls to 6-8 in Jayhawk East Conference play. The Grizzlies will be on the road Wednesday at Cloud County before returning home for a game on Saturday against Allen County at 3 p.m. At halftime of that game will be the 2019 induction ceremony for five new members of the Grizzly Athletic Hall of Fame, including former men's basketball standout Cleveland Jackson.
