Grizzly Basketball teaming up with SGA to host annual ‘Pack the Power Plant Purple’ night

"For every fight won,

For each battle lost,

For those still fighting,

We support you!"

That is just what the Student Government Association and the Butler athletic department are going to do on Monday night, show support, as they host the annual 'Pack the Power Plant Purple' night.

'Pack the Power Plan Purple' is an event geared towards honoring both survivors and the loved ones lost to cancer. The event has been going on for the last 11 years. Originally it was called 'Pack the Power Plant Pink' to celebrate Breast Cancer survivors and honor those that lost their battle. SGA voted on the idea of changing the event to 'Pack the Power Plant Purple' to honor all survivors or ones we have lost to all types of cancer. The lavender ribbon represents all the types of cancer.

The goal is to bring awareness and education to others. All proceeds from selling t-shirts and receiving donations go towards the Butler CC Student Cancer Fund. This fund helps students that are battling this disease and their families. SGA also donates some of the money to the St. Jude and Susan G. Komen organizations.

Coordinator of Student Involvement and Development Andrea Eidman had this to say about this great event, "The Student Government Association welcomes you to Pack the Power Plant Purple on Monday night. Each year these students take this opportunity and invite all of you to celebrate and recognize all the lives that have been affected by cancer.  There will be t-shirts being sold at the north entrance of the gym and 100% of your contributions will go to the Butler Student Cancer Fund. We hope to see you there."

The Butler teams will be wearing 'Pack the Power Plant Purple' t-shirts in warmups and throughout the night. Butler will host the Independence Pirates at 5:30pm & 7:30pm on Monday, February, 10.

Head women's coach Mike Helmer-

"Anytime we have an opportunity to come out and support a good cause like this is great. "This is very personal to me as I have family members currently fighting cancer. An event like this lets people know that we are thinking about them and we care for them and to keep fighting. Our girls are excited for the event and they appreciate it. Appreciate the people you have in your life."

Head men's coach Kyle Fisher-

"What a special and meaningful night. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. We are happy to be able to support a great cause and show support for those who have survived and for those who have lost."
