Hopkins scores career high 29 points in Butler’s 17-point win over Barton

There was no power shortage last night in El Dorado as Shawn Hopkins fired up the Power Plant Wednesday night with his offensive performance as he set a new career high 29 points in the Grizzlies 87-70 win over the Barton Cougars Wednesday night.

After a back-and-forth battle to start the game, Butler pieced together a 15-3 opening it up offensively for the Grizzlies. Butler was paced by sophomore Shawn Hopkins who scored 20 of his game high 29 points in the first half helping the Grizzlies to 13 points, 46-33 lead at the break.

It didn't stop there for Hopkins and crew as Butler expanded their lead to 25 points at the 11:56 mark of the second half. Some late baskets by the Cougars would close the gap but wouldn't be enough as Butler ran away with the Wednesday night win 87-70. 

Hopkins finished with 29 points on 10-15 shooting including 7-8 from the free throw line and seven rebounds. He wasn't the only one putting up numbers as teammate Noah Thomasson toed the line of a triple double finishing with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Thomasson was very efficient offensively going 4-6 from the floor and 10-12 from the free throw line. DeeJuan Pruitt posted his second straight 18 point game off 7-9 shooting, 2-2 from three, one that he made from outside 25ft.

Butler won the war on the glass finished +8 on the boards and had their fourth game this season with 18+ assists. Butler got to the free throw line a lot in the contest going 26-34, their most free throws made in a game this season.

NEXT UP: Butler prepares for a three-game road stint starting out in Goodland, KS this Saturday, February 20 with a 1:30pmCT tip against Northwest Kanas Technical College. They will then head back north to Concordia, KS where they will face Cloud County on Monday, February 22 at 8:00pm. They will finish the road trip on Saturday, February 27 at Independence at 4:00pm.
