Holt, English and Payne named to All-Jayhawk team

Basketball season might be over in El Dorado, but the Grizzlies were still well represented on the All Conference lists, which were released Tuesday afternoon. Eden Holt was named second team All-Conference while Marque English was named to the third team. Treylon Payne was also honored by being named the Jayhawk Conference Defensive Team of the Year. 

Eden Holt, the 5-10 sophomore from Houston, Texas who came to the Grizzlies after a Division I stint with UT-Martin, started in 28 of Butler's 32 games, and was integral for the Grizzlies, averaging 31.3 minutes per game, averaging 12.2 points per game and 4.7 assists per game. His season assist to turnover ratio of 2.2 was good for 3rd in the Jayhawk Conference, and his three point percentage was eighth in the league, finishing the season at 38% from deep. He was also nearly automatic from the free throw line, making 82% of his shots from the charity stripe, including many clutch free throws to seal wins when the Grizzlies needed it. He scored 20 points or more six times, the highest coming with a 26 point performance at home against defending national champs Coffeyville. 

Marque English returned to El Dorado after a short stint at Northern Colorado to play his second and final year for the Grizzlies, where he starred. The 6-6, 205 pound Pittsburg, Kansas native led the Grizzlies in scoring, averaging 11.6 points per game. He scored 10 points or more in 20 of his 29 games, his best game coming with a 25 point performance against Marshalltown Community College where he went 9-13 from the field. He shot 40% for the season, including 34% from beyond the arc which was good for 17th in the conference. He was also a key figure defensively, his 6.3 rebounds per game was enough for 14th in the league, while his 44 blocks was good enough for seventh.

Treylon Payne started 29 in his freshman season, hailing from Little Rock, Arkansas,  and he became a key defensive figure for Kyle Fisher's squad, his 81 overall steals was eighth in the conference, finishing with four steals or more in four different games this season. He also scored 19 points in a win over second ranked Indian Hills in a non conference game.
