Butler women tumble in 69-56 road loss to Cowley

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Butler women missed out on clinching the Jayhawk East championship outright with a 69-56 road loss at Cowley on Wednesday.

Butler (24-4 overall, 15-4 conference) never led in the contest and trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Cowley (23-6, 14-5) jumped out to a 28-13 lead midway through the second quarter before the Grizzlies clawed back within five on a 10-0 run. Kyla Callins was fouled on a made basket in the paint, then hit the bonus free throw to make the score 28-23 with 2:30 before halftime.

Butler came within five again at 37-32 midway through the third quarter after Lauryn Snipes cut through the Cowley defense for a basket.

However, Cowley answered with a quick 9-0 run and maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the contest.

Callins finished with 13 points and eight rebounds for Butler, who was held to just 30 percent (21-of-69) from the field.

Cowley's Kedranea' Addison scored a game-high 24 points and nine rebounds, while Paige Granstaff added 19 in the Tigers' win

Butler will attempt to clinch the East title outright in Saturday's regular season finale against Coffeyville. Tipoff at the Power Plant is at 3:00 p.m.
