Grizzlies hold Red Devils to nine second half points and 27 in the game as Butler cruises to big Saturday night win

The Butler women's basketball team completed the season sweep of Allen as they held the Red Devils to single digits in all four quarters picking up the 76-27 win Saturday night in the Power Plant.

With the KJCCC East championship already locked, the Grizzlies could have coasted out these final three regular season games but that is the last thing they had on their mind.

"We want to win out," exclaimed head coach Mike Helmer. "If we can win these next two and finish the regular season 20-1, I like our chances heading into the post season."

The Grizzlies played well offensively shooting 43% from the floor, but it was their defense that set the pace of the game starting in the early seconds of the game. Butler was locked in defensively as they forced 39 turnovers and kept Allen to a season low 27 points, keeping their scoring in every quarter to single digits. They gave up nine points in the first two quarters and allowed just nine in the final 20 minutes of the game.

Skyla Knight was on pace for a double-double closing out the first half with 12 points and eight steals but was only able to finish with 16 points and nine steals. Kaylee Nero led Butler in scoring for the second straight night finishing with a game high 18 points and seven rebounds. Riley Hett had a season high nine points as she went 3-4 from behind the arc. Prior to tonight, Hett was just 2-24 from deep.

"We want to continue to execute our stuff at a high level even in games like these," said Helmer. "It is March, and this is postseason for us."

NEXT UP: Butler (18-1, 17-1) will host Cowley (12-7, 10-7) on Monday, March 29 in their final regular season home game of the year. They will play on the road at Coffeyville on Wednesday, March 31 to end regular season play.

NOTES: Fewest number of points allowed this season… Fewest amount since November 3, 2017 vs. Tabor…Fourth game this season forcing 30+ turnovers and third in the last four games…Helmer picks up win number 291 as Butler head coach.
