Grizzlies roll in 27-point win over Cowley in final regular season home game of the year

The No. 9 Butler women's basketball (19-1. 18-1) team sent a loud message Monday night in their final home game of the regular season as they defeated the Cowley Tigers 99-72.

The Grizzlies played two of their best quarters of the season in the first half executing on both sides of the ball. The Butler defense held the Tigers to single digits in the first quarter (9), making that five straight quarters of holding their opponent in single digits.

Balanced scoring inside the paint from Knight, Nero, Mullins and Nard in the first quarter opened up the outside shot for sophomore Carrisa Beck who went 4-4 from behind the arc in the second quarter scoring 12 first half points and giving Butler a 52-35 halftime lead. 

The Grizzlies kept pace in the second half and finished off the season sweep of the Tigers winning 99-72.

Six Butler players scored in double figures with Skyla Knight leading the way with 21 points, five assists, four boards and three steals. Paris Mullins and Tamara Nard both had 15 points on the night with Mullins grabbing six rebounds and Nard five. Carissa Beck finished with 14 points while Mekayla Furman and Kaylee Nero each added 10 a piece. Cymirah Williams played Cymirah Williams basketball filling the stat sheet with eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 19 mintues on the court.

Butler shot a season high 58% from the floor making 39-67 shot attempts. They shot their third highest percentage from 3PT going 6-17 for 35%. They outrebounded the Tigers by 12 and kept them to just 3-34 from three. Butler has kept Cowley to 14-76 from three-point range in the two games played this season.

NEXT UP: Butler (19-1, 18-1) will travel to Coffeyville (13-6, 12-6) on Wednesday, March 31 to face the Red Ravens at 5:30pm who they suffered their only loss to this season on March 13. Last year the KJCCC East was won on the road in Coffeyville, this time, a little less pressure will be on the Grizzlies as they locked up the conference championship last week.
