Butler drop second game of the year and final game of the regular season with loss on the road at Coffeyville

The Butler women's basketball team (19-2, 18-2) closed out the regular season with a 71-62 loss on the road at Coffeyville Wednesday night.

"It was a tough loss and tough way to end the regular season but finishing 19-2 is something to be proud of," said head coach Mike Helmer. "The mindset now is to move onto the next part of the season which is the playoffs starting next week. We put ourselves in a good position to get the first-round bye now we need to refocus and get ready for whoever we play."

Coffeyville is the only team that has defeated Butler this season completing the sweep Wednesday night in Nellis Hall. The Grizzlies kept pace most of the game, but a poor shooting fourth quarter allowed the Red Ravens to take a late lead and make free throws down the stretch to finish with a nine-point win.

Tamara Nard led the way with 17 points and five rebounds. Skyla Knight was the other Grizzly to score in double figures finishing with 12 points, four assists, four steals and three boards.

Butler committed 19 turnovers but won the rebound battle by nine. It was the Red Ravens 11 three pointers and 73% from the FT line that would seal the win.

NEXT UP: Butler, who locked up the KJCCC East and first round by two weeks ago, will play the winner of Garden City/Cloud at home on Wednesday, April 7. Winner will advance to the semi-final round of the Region VI Tournament that Friday, April 9 hosted by Friends University.
