Women’s Basketball Opens Season Ranked 7th in the Nation in NJCAA Poll

EL DORADO, Kan. – The Butler women's basketball program enters the 2023 season with high expectations.

The Grizzlies were ranked seventh in the Preseason NJCAA D1 Women's Basketball Poll, released on Oct. 23. This comes after the Grizzlies were picked to win the KJCCC this season by the league's coaches.

The number seven ranking is the highest preseason rank the Grizzlies have received throughout head coach Mike Helmer's 16 years in El Dorado.

Plenty of returning production is back as NJCAA All-American forward Freddie Wallace and All-KJCCC second team guard Maycee James figure to pace Butler who finished 24-7 overall and 18-6 in conference play a season ago.

Butler is heavy on returning production this season with seven returners and four newcomers on this year's squad.

Other conference opponents in the preseason poll include Coffeyville at 18th and Barton at 25th. The full poll can be found below.

The season kicks off on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 5:30 p.m. when Bethany College JV takes on the Grizzlies at the Power Plant at 5:30 p.m.

Individual game and season tickets are now on sale at ButlerGrizzlies.com/Tickets.
