EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler women's basketball opened its season at the Power Plant on Thursday evening, defeating the Bethany College JV Swedes 71-39.
Butler (1-0) held Bethany (0-1) to just 26.4% (14-53) shooting from the field, forcing 32 turnovers as they stifled the Swedes all evening.
Butler went into halftime with a 16-point advantage at 37-21 and ultimately won by 32, doubling their lead by the end of the game.
Sophomore forward Freddie Wallace led Butler with 20 points on 9-22 shooting to go with six rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Maycee James did it all for the Grizzlies, finishing with 12 points, eight steals, six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore forward Brittanie Brickhouse had a team-high seven rebounds in her Grizzly debut. Sophomore guard Anna Eldridge had four points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore guard Dayuna Colvin totaled 10 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Butler did not make a three point shot all night, shooting 0-9 from deep.
The Grizzlies next game is Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. when they host Tabor JV at the Power Plant for the first game of a doubleheader.
