First Home KJCCC Game Results in 47-Point Drubbing of Seward for Butler Women’s Basketball

EL DORADO, Kan. – The sixth ranked Grizzly women's basketball squad defeated the Seward Saints by 47 in Butler's conference home opener on Sunday afternoon at the Power Plant.

The game between Butler (8-0, 2-0 KJCCC) and Seward (4-2, 1-2 KJCCC) was played on Sunday after originally being scheduled for Saturday. Snowy and icy conditions affected Seward's travel to El Dorado on Saturday.

Butler had five players score in double digits with Freddie Wallace and Dayuna Colvin leading all scorers with 18 each. Colvin also added six assists and four rebounds. J'unti Franklin scored a career-high 15 off the bench, knocking down two three pointers and totaling five rebounds. Randi Harding had another impressive performance, scoring 13 to go with five rebounds and four assists. It was her fourth straight double-digit scoring performance. Tiana Winn finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals. Maycee James had five steals, her fourth game of the season with five or more steals.

The Grizzlies have now won seven of eight games by 30 or more and three by 40 or more.

It was an impressive defensive effort as Butler held the Saints to just 25% shooting from the field while forcing 32 Seward turnovers, scoring 43 points off the turnovers. 54 of Butler's points were scored in the paint.

The game started off back-and-forth with Seward taking an early 5-4 lead. Harding proceeded to score back-to-back layups to put Butler ahead 8-5 with 5:20 remaining in the first quarter and the Grizzlies never trailed again in the game. The second quarter was when Butler broke it open

Butler scored 20 or more in all four quarters. The biggest point differential was the fourth when Butler outscored the Saints 20-6. Colvin scored a team-high six points in the final frame. Butler's biggest lead of the game was 49 points at 91-42 as Brittanie Brickhouse made a layup with 2:43 to go in the game.

The Grizzlies return to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. CT.
