Grizzlies Cruise Into Semester Break With Road Win at Independence

The Grizzlies (10-2, 5-2 KJCCC) defeated the Independence Pirates (1-12, 0-7) 70-34 Saturday afternoon at the ICC Fieldhouse. Butler held ICC to just 34 points, the second straight game they held an opponent to 34 points as they took down Colby 69-34 at home on Wednesday. They also held Indy to just 11 made field goals (11-43, 25.6%) after also holding Colby to 11 made field goals a game prior (11-50, 22.0%).
Freshman guard Keegan Yarick stuffed the score sheet tallying 11 points, a season-high nine steals, eight rebounds and two assists. Sophomore forward Lucia Lara nearly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Mya Mayberry finished with nine points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Butler outrebounded Indy 47-30, forced 32 turnovers and outscored the Pirates 38-18 in the paint. The Grizzlies never trailed in the game. They led just 28-17 at halftime but outscored the Pirates 26-8 in the third quarter – thanks to a 13-2 run in the opening four minutes – to lead 54-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Grizzlies enter the semester break on a four-game winning streak after previously losing two straight. Butler is currently tied for third in the conference with Coffeyville.
Next up, the Grizzlies host NOC-Enid on January 2nd at the Power Plant in a non-conference tilt. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
