Grizzlies Tame Tigers on the Road

Butler (13-4, 8-4 KJCCC) picked up its second consecutive win in league play and handed Cowley (11-6, 6-6) a loss snapping their two-game winning streak.
Butler had four players score in double figures. Freshman Kenzie Galliart led the way with 14 points and seven rebounds while freshman guard Keegan Yarick had 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Ashley Singhateh had 11 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Lucia Lara added a double-double off the bench with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
The Grizzlies led from 1:05 in the first quarter through the end of the game. Cowley held two separate leads in the first quarter after Butler got out to a 4-0 lead. Butler scored the final two baskets of the quarter to take a 17-13 lead.
The second quarter saw the Grizzlies pull away slightly, leading by as much as 14 and taking an 11-point advantage to halftime at 41-30. Butler took its biggest lead of the game early in the third quarter, 45-30. The Tigers cut the Grizzly lead to four with 1:59 in the third period but Ashley Singhateh scored three point over the final two minutes as Butler took a 55-48 lead to the fourth quarter.
A low scoring fourth quarter played in favor of Butler as the Grizzlies outscored Cowley just 10-8 to secure the 65-56 win. Butler held Cowley to 3-17 from the field in the quarter.
For the game Butler held Cowley to 25% shooting (17-68) and 20.8% from distance (10-48). The Grizzlies shot 43.1% from the field (25-58) and 25% from three (4-16). The 43.1% from the field was the best mark Butler has shot in seven games dating back to Dec. 6th when they shot 43.7% vs. Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
Cowley was led by Elyse Martinez's game-high 20 points while Jaiden Smith added 11 points. Alexcia Murphy finished with six points and eight rebounds.
The Grizzlies return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25th, when they travel to Pratt to take on the Pratt Beavers at 2 p.m.
