Freshman middle blocker Ryann Hamilton (Overland Park, Kan.) and sophomore outside hitter Sarah Sullivan (Henderson, Nev.) were named the KJCCC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the second time this season Sullivan has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and the first time Hamilton has earned conference recognition in her freshman campaign.
Butler went 2-0 on the week with wins over Dodge City and Garden City thanks in part to the play of Hamilton and Sullivan. The Grizzlies moved north of .500 in conference play, now sitting at 7-6.
Sullivan helped to pace Butler's offense in both matches, finishing with 17 kills on a .405 hitting percentage against Dodge City while also adding five digs and seven block assists. In a five-set win at Garden City to close out the week, Sullivan notched 15 kills and 12 digs for a double-double in addition to five block assists. On the season, Sullivan has 17 matches with 10+ kills and ranks second in the conference with 304 total kills.
Hamilton was a force defensively at the net for Butler in their two wins. She finished with 10 blocks and five kills in a win over Dodge City and seven blocks and nine kills in the win at Garden City. On the season, she ranks second in the KJCCC with 1.15 blocks per set.
Butler heads to Hutchinson Wednesday to take on the Blue Dragons in a 6 p.m. match.
