Grizzlies Season Comes to an End in Region 6 Quarterfinals
EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler volleyball saw its season come to a close on Wednesday evening as the No. 3 seed Grizzlies fell 3-2 (25-21, 25-10, 23-25, 21-25, 13-15) to sixth seeded Hutchinson at the Power Plant in the Region 6 Quarterfinal round.
EL DORADO, Kan. – Butler volleyball saw its season come to a close on Wednesday evening as the No. 3 seed Grizzlies fell 3-2 (25-21, 25-10, 23-25, 21-25, 13-15) to sixth seeded Hutchinson at the Power Plant in the Region 6 Quarterfinal round.
The Grizzlies and the Blue Dragons met for a third time this season on Wednesday night, as Butler had won the previous two matchups, both in five sets. Wednesday night's quarterfinal matchup saw the Grizzlies go up 2-0 in the match, but Hutchinson stormed back for a reverse sweep to win the match and advance to the Region 6 Semifinals to take on the second seeded Colby Trojans.
Butler dominated the second set, winning 25-10 and it seemed like the Grizzlies would be moving on to the next round of the conference tournament, but Hutchinson had other plans. The Grizzlies held a 16-10 lead in the third set, but Hutchinson responded by ending the set on a 15-7 run and forcing the match to a fourth set. Hutchinson took control of the fourth set and again forced the Grizzlies to compete for a fifth set. Butler ultimatley fell in the fifth set 15-13. The Grizzlies end their season 20-12 and 10-6 in conference play.
Butler as a team hit .199, 52 kills on 166 attacks. Freshman Harlee Randall led the team with 14 kills on 39 attacks. Bella Holcomb added 32 assists and five digs.
