Butler student-athletes were recognized on a national level as 47 Grizzlies were named to the prestigious list of National Junior College Athletic Association All-Academic team members while four Butler programs were named to the All-Academic team list this year.
The Grizzlies had a total of 20 students (eight sports represented in total) earn First Team All-Academic honors (4.00 GPA). Another 12 earned Second Team honors and 15 picked up Third Team honors. Baseball led the way with 13 student-athletes earning All-Academic honors with football at 10.
Four Butler programs had a 3.00 GPA of better, with Volleyball (third consecutive year) having the top Grizzly team distinction warning a 3.40 GPA this past year as a team. In addition to volleyball, baseball finished with a 3.36 team GPA, soccer recorded a 3.24 GPA and softball had a team GPA of 3.13.
The NJCAA announced the 2020-21 All-Academic Teams, recognizing student-athletes across the country for their dedication in the classroom late last week. A total of 8,272 student-athletes have been honored for achieving a GPA above 3.60 across the association.
"Despite obstacles and adjustments, NJCAA student-athletes rose above challenges to display widespread academic success this year," said Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President & CEO. "It is incredible to see these individuals competing again and accomplishing rich athletic and academic success concurrently, we commend their efforts."
Student-athletes are eligible to earn academic honors by achieving an overall GPA of 3.60 or higher for the 2020-21 academic year. The criteria for the three All-Academic teams are listed below:
- NJCAA All-Academic First Team: 4.00 GPA
- NJCAA All-Academic Second Team: 3.80-3.99 GPA
- NJCAA All-Academic Third Team: 3.60-3.79 GPA
