BJ McVay Retires as Grizzly Baseball Head Coach

EL DORADO, Kansas – The Butler Community College baseball program will be under the direction of a new head coach for the first time in 13 seasons after head coach BJ McVay announced his retirement on Tuesday.

A Butler baseball coaching veteran of 19 years including the last 13 as head coach, McVay retires as Butler's all-time winningest head coach with a 392-299 overall record as the Grizzly skipper.

"I appreciate everything Butler has done for me over the past 19 years," said McVay. "They gave a kid a shot at 32 years of age to lead the program and I am forever thankful for that. I appreciate Todd (Todd Carter, Butler athletic director) trusting me to take over in 2011 and I couldn't be more appreciative of Butler Community College and what all the people there have done for my family and me. I'm excited to be able to spend more time with my family as well as being able to watch my son grow and play in high school."

"I want to thank BJ for all of the contributions he made to the baseball program and the college as a whole," said Butler Community College athletic director Todd Carter. "BJ was a great role model and teacher for our baseball student-athletes, and his teams were highly successful on and off the field. I want to wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors."
