Winkel earns KJCCC Special Teams Player of the Week

Taiten Winkel, sophomore kicker/punter from Halstead, KS, earned KJCCC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after his performance in the Grizzlies' 36-17 victory over No. 6 ranked Snow College last Saturday night.

Winkel kept the field position game in favor of the Grizzlies when they faced a tough and physical Snow team.

"He has a really strong leg and did a grat job for us Saturday in the kicking game keeping the field flipped to our advantage," commented Butler head coach Tim Schaffner.

Winkel had four punts averaging 37.8 yards per punt with his longest being 49 yards. He knocked down a 30-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the third quarter to give Butler a 29-3 cushion heading into the final 15 minutes of the game. He finished 2-of-3 in PAT's and had six kickoffs that totaled 329 yards, an average of 54.8 yards per kickoff.

"He's doing a great job for us and the plays he makes are instrumental to our success, especially in early season games," commented Schaffner.

Last week, Winkel registered one punt of 33 yards in the opening game of the season against Iowa Central.
