EL DORADO, Kan. – For a second straight week, the Butler men's basketball team is ranked 17th in the NJCAA D1 Men's Basketball Poll, with the week five rendition released Monday.
The No. 17 Grizzlies are coming off a week in which they went 2-0 with a 73-68 road win at Garden City and a 80-75 win over Dodge City at home Saturday. The win on Saturday was head coach Kyle Fisher's 100th career win as head coach at Butler. The Grizzlies enter winter break with a 10-2 overall record, 5-1 in KJCCC play and are just one game back from first place in the conference.
Butler has been ranked each week this season, including the preseason poll. They opened at No. 13 in the preseason poll, dropped to No. 14 in the week one poll, jumped to No. 11 in the week two poll and landed at No. 9 in the week three poll. A loss to Barton at home dropped Butler to No. 17 where they have been the last two weeks.
So far this season Butler has played two ranked teams and are set to play currently ranked teams five more times in the spring semester. The Grizzlies are 0-2 to the current top-25 with losses to then-No. 20 Moberly Area and then-No. 6 Barton.
Other KJCCC teams in the week five poll are Cowley (No. 9), Barton (No. 10) and Hutchinson (No. 21).
Butler is off for winter break, with its next game scheduled for January 3, 2024, at the Power Plant. No. 21 Hutchinson comes to town for a top-25 matchup, set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday.
