For the first time since the 2016 season, both the Women's and men's indoor track teams are ranked inside the Top 10, both landing at No. 9, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
"It feels good to be back in the top ten," said head coach Dustin Mettler. "It tells us we are doing something right and recruiting the right athletes."
The women stayed put at No. 9, but the men's team jumped six spots from a week ago after a big weekend at Pittsburg State University this past weekend. Twenty-two Grizzlies punch tickets to the NJCAA Indoor National Meet, 15 of them from the men's team and eight from the women's team.
"Everyone can continue to improve," commented Mettler. "If you are not number one in your respective event, then there is always room for improvement. We still have a number of individuals we want to get qualified.
The Grizzlies will travel north to Lincoln, NE to test their abilities as they compete at the Husker Invite this coming Friday and Saturday.
"Being ranked doesn't necessarily put a target on our back," mentioned Mettler, " but more so, it is a good motivational tool to keep working hard to improve on a daily basis."
This marks the first time in coach Mettler's tenure that the teams have both been ranked inside the Top 10.
