Grizzly track standouts set to compete in Outdoor National Championships around the world this weekend

Three Butler Grizzly track and field standouts will compete in their home countries later this week for a chance to earn a spot on their countries national team.

Caleb Jackson, United States, Jerod Elcock, Trinidad and Tobago and Shawnakay Peart, Jamaica, will all lace it up this week and compete against the best in the world.

Caleb Jackson, native of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, will run the 100 meter prelims on Thursday in heat three, lane six at the 2022 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. There will be 16 athletes that advance to the semi-finals —via the top three in each heat plus the next four fastest times. You can watch live broadcast on USATF.TV and the NBC family of networks. Jackson was part of the NJCAA National Championship 4x100 meter relay team this past May while also finishing third place in the 100 meter. 

Jerod Elcock, Carone, Trinidad and Tobago native, will compete in two events, the 100 meter and the 200 meter at the NGC NAAATT National Open Championships at Hasely Crawford stadium, Port of Spain. Elcock is a three-time NJCAA National Champion this past year and also has some national competition under his belt. Elcock competed nationally at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships back in March where he qualified for the finals in the men's 60 meter and took 6th place overall.

Shawnakay Peart will be competing for her home country of Jamaica this weekend iat the Jamaica National Championships at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. Peart will compete in the 100 meter and 200 meter at the trials for a chance to earn a spot on the national team. Peart is part of the reigning NJCAA 4x100 meter National Championship relay team this past May and also got on the medal stand at NJCAA nationals in the 100 meter and 200 meter.

"It is great to see some of our student athletes competing at this level," said sprints coach Greg Franklin. "They have worked hard all year and done great things for us at Butler I hope they can have a great weekend on the track and represent their countries well."
