Women finish third place in Region VI; set facility and new school records

The Butler women's track and field team brought home some hardware Saturday afternoon and set two new school records as they finished 3rd place in the Region VI Championships hosted by Cowley College this past weekend.

Linesha Thompson was named the Female Track Athlete of the Meet while Greg Franklin, Butler assistant coach was named the Assistant Coach of the Year as recognized by the KJCCC.

The Butler women's 4x100 meter relay team posted the fastest time in the nation this season setting a facility and new school record running a 45.08 in the relay. The team was made up of Toshel Goffe, Kaleb McDonald, Kiara Brown and Linesha Thompson

The women's 4x400 meter relay team also had a great day on the track finishing second behind a tough Barton squad running a 3:45.98, setting a new school record and posting the third fastest time in the NJCAA just three seconds off the leader South Plains.

Linesha Thompson was Region VI Champion in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the 4x100 relay. Kaleb McDonald was Region VI Champion in the 400 meter relay.

The Butler men finished 8th in Region VI with a handful of top five performances.

3rd – David Niang, 110 meter hurdles 14.57

3rd – Jalen Smith, Triple Jump 14.25m

4th – Caleb Jackson, 100 meter dash 10.25

4th – 4x400 meter relay, 3:17.21 (Judah Taylor, Arlon Williams, Brandon Alexander-Gittens, Jeremy McDowell)

The Grizzlies will now prepare for the NJCAA National Championships coming up on May 11-13 in Levelland, TX hosted by South Plains.
