Sanchez wins her third KJCCC ‘Runner of the Week’ honor after winning Ollie Isom Invitational

Michelle Sanchez locked up her third Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference 'Runner of the Week' honor after winning the Ollie Isom Invitational last Friday in El Dorado, KS.

Sanchez led the Grizzlies to a 1st place finish at their home meet on Friday at the newly built course 'The Ollie' located on the American legion disc golf course just two blocks from campus.

Running a 19:01.0, Sanchez won the 5000-kilometer race by 31 seconds defeating Patricia Koma from Pratt who finished 2nd. Although this wasn't Sanchez's best time in the 5K, she ran a great race on a new course and held a good pace throughout its entirety. 

"I am so proud of Michelle," said head coach Dustin Mettler. "She just continues to improve and show me things that I didn't think she could do. She works so hard for this and I am happy to see her get the recognition she deserves."

Sanchez is preparing this week for the KJCCC and Region VI Championships happening Saturday, October 26 in Iola, KS with her eyes on a top finsih and potentialy a Region VI and KJCCC title. Allen is hosting the meet and teams will be running on the Allen County Country Club. Sanchez will run the 5K championship race at 11:00am.
