IOLA, Kan. – The Butler men held off a hard-charging Allen County squad in the second half to earn their first conference road win of the season by a 90-78 score.
The Grizzlies raced out to a big early lead as Bakari Triggs scored seven of Butler's first 15 points. The Grizzlies would go up 31-11 with 7:30 to play in the half after a layup by Lamar Wofford-Humphrey. A basket at the buzzer by Sean Goodwin put the Grizzlies up 44-23 at the intermission.
Larry Fitzgerald led the Grizzlies with 22 points, while Sean Goodwin scored 18 points and Bakari Triggs scored 15.
The Grizzlies are now 19-6 overall and are 5-2 in Jayhawk East Conference play, getting within a half-game of first-place Independence, which was idle on Saturday. Butler will be back in action on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Coffeyville. That will be the makeup of Wednesday's game that was postponed due to weather.
