Manuel (Manny) Gonzalez begins his third year as an assistant coach for the Butler Cross Country and Track & Field teams in 2023. He works primarily with the distance runners.

A recent graduate of Southwestern College, Gonzalez knows Kansas and the two-year level quite well as he spent his first two collegiate years running for the Blue Dragons in Hutchinson.

The Mercedes, TX native attended Hutchinson CC where he was a two-time All-Region/KJCCC in the 4x800 relay, Distance Medley Relay and the Mile. He was also a two-time All-American in the 4x800 relay and the Distance Medley Relay.

At southwestern, Gonzalez continued to chalk up the accolades. He was an eight-time KCAC All-Conference performer in Indoor track as well as a six-time All-Conference performer in Outdoor track. He was also an NAIA marathon National Qualifier.

He has been a volunteer coach for two years at Mid Valley Summer Track Club and is excited to start his collegiate coaching career at Butler.

“I have been in Kansas for the past five years and I can say Butler is one of the most outstanding colleges I have come across,” said Gonzalez. “It’s a pleasure to be a part of a great family and friendly atmosphere where all the staff and coaches work together to get their student athletes ready for the next level. I am excited to be part of the Butler family and get work done.”

Gonzalez is the son of Nora and Manuel Gonzalez. He has two younger brothers and a younger sister.
