Grizzlies roll in Goodland sweeping the Mavericks

The Butler Grizzlies completed a series sweep of the Northwest Tech Mavericks, traveling to Goodland on Wednesday, winning game one 13-0 before an 18-1 domination in game two for the doubleheader sweep. 

Game 1

The Grizzlies scored six runs in the third and five runs in the fourth to preserve the run rule in the opening game of the day. Gianna De Luca-Paape starred in the first game with two home runs, and four RBIs. Paige Paxton, Brionna Woods and Amaiyah Hall all hit triples, and the Grizzlies totaled 13 runs on 15 hits.

Emma Koeneke improved her season record to 19-1 with a two inning shutout performance, striking out five.

Game 2

Fifteen runs in the final two innings were the difference as the Grizzlies completed the sweep, as Butler put 21 hits on the board, cruising to their second win of the day. Reese Briggs hit two home runs in the game, and Alex Olson also pitched in a homer. Briggs starred with four runs batted in. 13 different Grizzlies found hits in the victory.

Allyson Montgomery improved to 17-0 with three innings of shutout softball. The freshman struck out five and allowed just one hit. Emma Koeneke and Kendal LeGrand came on in relief and allowed just one run as the three Butler pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.
