Softball Splits with Barton on the Road

The Grizzlies continued their conference season with a midweek trip to Great Bend to face the Barton Cougars on Wednesday. They earned a doubleheader split with the Cougars, winning game one with a 5-2 victory before losing game two, 9-1 in five innings.

Allyson Montgomery powered the Grizzlies to the victory, pitching a complete game and earning an impressive 17 strikeouts. The Goddard native allowed just two runs on five hits and earned her eighth victory of the season.

Kendyl Anderson broke the game open in the fourth inning with a two run home run that gave the Grizzlies a three run lead. Cady Dickey also put in a multiple RBI day, with a two RBI double in the fifth that cemented the victory.

Anderson earned her second home run of the day in the second game of the doubleheader, hitting a solo shot in the fourth. It proved to be the only run in the game for the Grizzlies, as Butler was run ruled by a conference opponent for the first time since 2015.

The Grizzlies wind up with a record of 15-6 after the series split and are now 8-2 in conference play. The Grizzlies will next face Labette County at East Park, a doubleheader against a nonconference opponent, before traveling to Goodland for a conference doubleheader against Northwest Tech.
